About - Front Projection Home Theaters

Our business started with a passion for wanting to bring the concept of front projectors and projection screens to the average consumer. We wanted to show the average person who was thinking about buying a big-screen or plasma TV what could be done for less money. What was once only available to those with fat wallets, has made its way into the mainstream. You may wonder why it is that you didn't know about them? It's because very few retail outlets actually carry and display these products. You usually only find them in specialty stores that are trying to sell you thousands of dollars more in equipment than you actually need. Our business model is to bring the projection based home theater experience to your average customer who was thinking about spending $2500 on a big screen TV.

The world of front projection is very exciting. A few fantastic things have happened recently with front projectors. 1) Technology has really advanced to allow these products to compete in quality with plasmas and rear projection TV's (big screens). 2) Price has come down due to increased competition 3) Screen fabrics have been designed to superbly enhance the image that these projectors produce.

This is not the stuff sitting in your company's conference room. These are products specifically designed for home theaters and they are amazing. We carry several projectors that can give you breathtaking theater size images for much less than the price of a 65" big-screen. Once you see what projectors can do, you won't want a big screen, nor will you be willing to spend the extra money on a Plasma TV.

Here is a breakdown of some of the positives and negatives of front projection based set-ups so you can informatively make your own decision.

Positives
  • Price - There are several projectors to choose from in the less than $1500 range that can outperform the top big-screens and compete with pricey plasmas. Combine your projector with a high-quality screen and you can produce images well over 100" in size for less than $2500.
  • Image Size - As mentioned above, projectors can produce stunning images that are the size of your wall versus that of 65" big screens and 42" and 50" plasmas. Projectors are by far the most capable at recreating a theater like experience with their 72-120" screens.
  • Space - Projectors take up very little space. Weighing in at 5-10 lbs, they can easily attach to your ceiling or sit on your coffee table. The projection screens act like a plasma in the way they mount on your wall freeing up valuable floor space.
  • Size - Unlike bulky big-screens, projection based systems take up zero space. Rather than having a huge piece of furniture acting as your television, projection based systems are light, easy to move and offer a very clean look. Projectors make the best use of your floor space.
  • Flood resistant - You may wonder what we are talking about here, but a high percentage of customers build their home theaters in their basement. Big-screens are very susceptible to getting water damage being that they sit on the ground and can't easily be moved. It would be extremely unlikely that a projector sitting on your coffee table and a screen mounted on the wall could be damaged by an unfortunate event like water damage.
  • Display advantages -
    • No "Burn-in" - Projection based system are not susceptible to "burn-in" like big-screens and plasmas. Burn-in is caused when you watch certain programming or play video games for extended periods of time. These images can be "burned" in to your TV screen affecting the overall image quality that you receive.
    • Wide viewing angle - Projectors have a wide viewing angle meaning that they can adequately be viewed from the sides.
    • No "sweet-spot" - Projectors don't have a "sweet-spot" like big-screens in that they need to be viewed from the center of the seating area at the right height. With projectors, you see a quality image at any height or position.
    • No reflective glare - Projectors are not susceptible to reflective glare like you see on big-screens and some plasmas. Projection screens are made of material, so there is no glass to reflect light.
    • Versatility - The projectors we sell are all compatible with all your video components (DVD players, VCRs, Cable and Satellite Receivers, Gaming consoles). They can display all of the current HDTV signals such as 480p, 720p and 1080i.
Negatives
  • Room Size - In order to accommodate these larger images, you need a larger room for proper viewing. It is recommended that your room is at least 12 feet in length. Thus, the projection screen needs to be at least 12 feet from the projector and where you will sit.
  • Lighting - To achieve the best possible image quality, you need to be able to control your lighting, particularly sunlight. The darker you can make it, the better.
  • Sound - You need to have an audio receiver and speakers connected to your video components in order to have sound. This is not much different from a home theater with a Plasma or a big-screen TV. If you rely on the internal speakers on your television, then you are not enjoying home theater, you are just watching a big TV.
  • Requires the use of a cable box (tuner) or satellite receiver - unlike a TV, projectors are not capable of directly accepting standard coaxial cables (RG59/RG6). Instead, it requires the use a video connection (Composite/S-Video/Component) from the cable box or satellite receiver to the projector for television viewing. This is the same as it is for most plasma displays.
Bottom line: Projection based systems will deliver much more of a cinema like experience for the money. You can get a picture up to four times the size, for the price of a big-screen TV and you'll get much more WOW factor for your money. The technology that is available today is quickly becoming known for amazing brightness, clarity and impressive reliability to the point where projectors are revolutionizing the home entertainment world.
